The renewal of ITA Airways’ Hangar Lounge arrives at a time when airlines are redefining the role of ground experiences in shaping overall customer satisfaction. As competition intensifies across Europe’s premium travel segment — particularly with ITA’s integration into Lufthansa Group — the investment signals the carrier’s intention to elevate its service standards and strengthen its value proposition for business, premium leisure and connecting long-haul travellers. For the trade, the upgraded lounge reflects a shift toward differentiated pre-flight hospitality as a key driver of loyalty and premium engagement.

A redesigned space for growing passenger volumes

ITA Airways unveils the newly renovated Hangar Lounge at Rome Fiumicino Airport, introducing an expanded layout and upgraded amenities to enhance the pre-flight experience. Located in Terminal 1, Boarding Area A, the refreshed space opens 135 sqm of additional surface area, adds 65 new seats for a total capacity of 205 and features a redesigned 50-sqm entrance with an improved welcome desk.

The upgrade is timed to support increasing traffic from ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group carriers as integration progresses.

Comfort and wellbeing at the forefront

The centrepiece of the redesign is the new Silent Room — a 90-sqm space with 25 chaise longues designed for rest, sensory calm and pre-flight decompression. The Exclusive Room for Executive guests receives enhancements including a dedicated wine and sparkling wine cellar, live departure screens and a premium experiential shower.

Restrooms have been redesigned, expanded and moved closer to the entrance for ease of access and smoother passenger flow.

Airline leadership on elevated hospitality

“The renewal of the Hangar Lounge represents not only a significant structural investment, but also a tangible demonstration of ITA Airways’ ongoing commitment to excellence in the airport hospitality we offer our passengers,” says Joerg Eberhart, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, ITA Airways. “With the new layout of the Hangar Lounge, the airline reaffirms its ambition to offer not just travel services, but experiences that can inspire, delight, and foster a lasting bond with our customers—guided by the values of hospitality, style, and attention to detail that distinguish our Company.”

Italian partnerships that shape identity

The refreshed lounge highlights ITA Airways’ focus on Italian craftsmanship through new brand partnerships. Wine producer Aneri joins the airline’s premium portfolio, with products served on intercontinental Business Class, international flights and in both Rome VIP lounges. The selection includes Amaro Anerissimo, Aneri N.3 Giorgia Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut Millesimato DOCG and Aneri Biologico N.7 Leone Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG.

A multisensory launch experience

The Hangar Lounge reopening is marked by “Travel with All Your Senses”, a multisensory programme featuring reflexology expert Flavia Bergognoni, parfumeur Paola Bottai, handpan musician Luca Bertelli, visual artist Riccardo Palazzi and a signature Campari Academy cocktail, Zen Time, crafted to enhance the pre-flight experience.

Positioning for competitive premium growth

With a refreshed design, expanded capacity and premium-led collaborations, ITA Airways strengthens its position in Europe’s airport hospitality landscape. The lounge forms part of the carrier’s broader ambition to deliver higher-quality, Italian-inspired travel experiences as its integration into Lufthansa Group progresses.
