ITA Airways Expands Winter Network with New Rome–Mauritius Flight

At the TTG Travel Experience in Rimini, ITA Airways unveiled its Winter 2025–2026 schedule, marking another milestone in its growth story with a stronger long-haul network, solid passenger performance, and closer integration with the Lufthansa Group.

ITA Airways announced an ambitious winter schedule featuring 53 destinations, including 16 domestic, 21 international, and 16 intercontinental routes. The highlight is the new direct service between Rome Fiumicino and Mauritius, launching on 7 November 2025. Operated with an Airbus A330neo, the route will offer two weekly overnight flights departing from Rome on Fridays and Sundays.

The airline will also resume its Rome–Malé (Maldives) service on 19 December 2025, operating daily until early January before shifting to three weekly frequencies, with a fourth added in February. Flights to Bangkok will increase to daily from 8 December, while Buenos Aires will see ten weekly frequencies between mid-December and early January.

In the first nine months of 2025, ITA Airways carried 12.6 million passengers — 2 million on long-haul routes — achieving an average load factor of 83.4%, up 2.5 points from last year. Passenger revenues reached €2.17 billion, a 4% rise compared to 2024.

Sandro Pappalardo, Chairman of ITA Airways, said, “Our company is an integral part of Italian tourism and Made in Italy — values we promote worldwide with excellence, innovation, and customer focus. TTG offers us a vital opportunity to strengthen partnerships and build new synergies in the tourism sector.”

CEO and General Manager Joerg Eberhart added, “These first nine months have been an exciting challenge. Carrying 12.6 million passengers reflects our customers’ trust and the success of our strategy. We remain focused on improving service quality and achieving breakeven by the end of 2025, setting the stage for a new phase of growth and investment from 2026.”

The airline’s integration with the Lufthansa Group continues to deepen, with codeshare agreements now active with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Air Dolomiti, providing over 150 new connections across Europe and beyond. The partnership between ITA Airways’ Volare programme and Lufthansa’s Miles & More loyalty scheme allows members to earn and redeem points across both networks.

ITA Airways passengers can now access more than 130 lounges worldwide, and operations are being streamlined at Lufthansa Group terminals in Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg to reduce connection times. With these steps, ITA Airways is positioning itself as a key player in global aviation, reinforcing Italy’s presence on the world travel map.
