Text: In a conversation with Rama Mahendru, Country General Manager, Intrepid Travel India, we gained insight into the company’s journey through 2023 and their ambitious agenda for 2024. As the world gradually emerges from the shadows of the pandemic, the travel industry has witnessed shifts and adaptations, and Intrepid Travel stands as a testament to resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to responsible tourism.

Reflecting on the year that passed, Mahendru acknowledged the initial challenges post-pandemic. “After the pandemic, we had a slow start,” she shared, “but as tourism is flourishing, we have organized trips for around 6,500 travellers in India this season.” Despite the initial hurdles, Intrepid Travel managed to navigate through uncertainties, demonstrating a gradual revival within the tourism sector.

Looking ahead optimistically to 2024, Mahendru exuded confidence, stating, “The coming 2024 season seems to be promising.” She revealed ambitious yet achievable goals, aiming to return to pre-pandemic inbound customer numbers. “By 2024, we expect to have returned to the inbound customer numbers we had pre-pandemic,” she mentioned, recalling the time when Intrepid brought approximately 12,000 customers from Australia, Britain, and North America to India.

When asked about the agenda for the upcoming year, Mahendru shared the company’s plans with enthusiasm. “Seeing the current boom of travellers in 2023, we are hopeful for a full year in 2024,” she affirmed, hinting at an anticipated surge in travel demands. “We expect almost double the number of travellers we managed this year,” she added optimistically.

Mahendru emphasized the introduction of new travel experiences to cater to evolving preferences. “We are introducing new trips, offbeat trips, and some active trips in different regions of India,” she revealed. With a focus on diversifying their offerings, Intrepid Travel aims to intrigue and captivate travellers seeking unique and immersive experiences.

However, beyond growth and expansion, Mahendru highlighted Intrepid Travel’s steadfast commitment to responsible tourism. “We constantly look for partners that are aligned with our purpose,” she emphasized. The company remains dedicated to being carbon-neutral and aims to further reduce its environmental impact. Mahendru expressed their commitment to support local communities by employing locally, purchasing locally, and investing in community projects.

“In essence,” Mahendru concluded, “we want to be the best travel company, not just in the world, but for the world.” This sentiment echoes Intrepid Travel’s ethos of responsible travel, sustainability, and a dedication to leaving a positive impact on the destinations they explore.

As Intrepid Travel looks forward to the horizon of 2024, their vision encompasses growth, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to making meaningful contributions to the global travel landscape while embracing their role as stewards of responsible tourism.
