As global travel leadership increasingly demands proximity to governments, institutions and talent, WTTC’s decision on its next global base signals where the centre of tourism advocacy is heading.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has selected Madrid as the location for its new Global Office, following a unanimous decision by its Operating Committee after a comprehensive strategic review.

The move reflects WTTC’s objective to strengthen operational efficiency, enhance international advocacy, and deliver greater value to its global membership by positioning itself at the heart of Europe’s policy and connectivity ecosystem.

Strategic rationale behind the move

Spain was chosen for its strong combination of global air connectivity, access to diverse international talent, and a well-established public–private commitment to travel and tourism. From Madrid, WTTC aims to reinforce its global leadership role while improving engagement with governments, institutions, and industry stakeholders worldwide.

Highlighting the long-term vision behind the decision, Manfredi Lefebvre, Chairman, WTTC, said the choice reflects what the organisation requires in the years ahead, including stronger research capabilities, deeper government advocacy, and a truly international outlook.

Closer engagement with governments and institutions

WTTC also emphasised Spain’s understanding of tourism’s role as an economic engine and job creator. Gloria Guevara Manzo, Interim President & CEO, WTTC, noted that Madrid offers a strong platform to engage more closely with WTTC members, governments, and international institutions, supporting the Council’s global agenda.

Next steps

WTTC acknowledged the interest shown by all cities and countries that participated in the evaluation process and thanked them for their engagement.

The organisation will now work closely with the Government of Spain to operationalise the new Global Office, marking the next phase in WTTC’s efforts to strengthen travel and tourism’s role as a driver of economic growth, employment, and positive global impact.
