Tripura may prioritise healthcare infrastructure and medical tourism in its 2026–27 budget to drive economic growth. Officials say developing advanced medical facilities and establishing institutions such as an AIIMS could strengthen healthcare services while creating opportunities for medical tourism and regional development.

Policy recommendations based on a study on state finances suggest that improving healthcare capacity could position Tripura as an emerging medical hub in Northeast India. Experts say an AIIMS facility would expand access to specialised treatment, reduce the need for patients to travel to metro cities, and generate employment across healthcare and allied sectors, including hospitality, pharmaceuticals, transport, and diagnostics.
