Affluent Indians are increasingly spending more on travel than retail, with travel’s share rising from 28 per cent to 58 per cent among ultra-elite consumers, according to a Visa Consulting & Analytics white paper. The trend reflects a shift towards experience-led spending amid rising incomes and evolving lifestyle preferences.

The Visa Consulting & Analytics (VCA) report highlights that discretionary spending on travel, dining, and luxury services is growing as consumers move up the affluence ladder. Monthly transactions per card are up to 10 times higher among affluent users, positioning travel as a key driver for airlines, hospitality, and premium tourism segments.
