As large-format weddings, conferences and social events scale up across India’s luxury hotels, the spotlight has increasingly remained on spectacle and guest experience. What is less visible — but equally critical — is the workforce that builds these moments from the ground up. Progressive hospitality today is being defined not just by how hotels host guests, but by how they support the people who make these experiences possible.
Moving beyond conventional definitions of luxury, Taj Cidade de Goa has introduced a dedicated facility designed to provide event support staff with space, comfort and dignity during large-scale functions at the property.
Behind every high-profile wedding, international conference or landmark celebration lies an extensive network of technicians, decorators, riggers, loaders, drivers and coordinators. During peak events, the movement of such teams increases significantly, yet their basic needs have traditionally been addressed through temporary or inadequate arrangements.
Recognising this gap, Taj Cidade de Goa has created a dedicated Crew Area — a clean, well-lit and organised space where event support teams can dine, hydrate, rest and recharge between long shifts. The facility also ensures access to safe drinking water and hygienic, well-maintained washroom facilities, allowing staff to meet basic needs comfortably during demanding event schedules.
Ranjit Phillipose, Senior Vice President – Operations, Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), Goa, said, “True hospitality is defined by how we treat people. The teams working behind the scenes are integral to the success of every event, and it was important for us to ensure they are supported with dignity and respect. Being able to initiate this change and create a meaningful, positive impact on their everyday experience is something we genuinely value and wanted to pioneer.”
The initiative has also been welcomed by the event management community in Goa. Jerry Pinto, CEO of Buzz Events, said, “Indeed encouraged to see what Taj Cidade de Goa has created for the vendor’s staff and labour here at the Vendor’s Lounge. To be able to have meals in a cleaner and healthier environment with access to clean drinking water and washrooms with dignity is indeed festive cheer.”
More than a functional upgrade, the Crew Area reflects a broader shift in hospitality thinking — one that extends care beyond guests to everyone involved in delivering the experience. By prioritising safety, comfort and inclusion for event management personnel, the property is reinforcing a culture of empathy within the wider hospitality and events ecosystem.
In an industry often associated with grandeur and scale, Taj Cidade de Goa’s approach stands out for its human-centred focus. It acknowledges that the success of large-format events is built not only on décor and design, but on the hands that assemble, manage and execute every detail behind the scenes.
As luxury hospitality continues to evolve, such initiatives are setting new benchmarks for responsible and inclusive operations — demonstrating that dignity, when extended behind the scenes, is as powerful as anything showcased under the spotlight.
