India is doubling down on destination building in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement by Ministry of Tourism, GoI, the Centre has sanctioned multiple tourism projects in Assam under Swadesh Darshan, SD2.0, CBDD, SASCI and PRASHAD amounting to total ₹467.89 crore. The pipeline ranges from wildlife and heritage circuits to new experiences like Kokrajhar wetlands and Cinnamara tea estate, plus big-ticket upgrades like Guwahati’s zoo and botanical garden and the Rang Ghar precinct in Sivasagar. In J&K, six Himalayan Circuit projects worth ₹519.58 crore are completed.
The focus now shifts to sustainable destinations and year-round promotion. PRASHAD is backing Kamakhya, while Vaishno Devi draws millions and supports local jobs.
