The Asha Prakash Shetty Sahaya Hasta Programme – ‘Neravu’, a flagship social welfare initiative led by MRG Group Chairman Dr K Prakash Shetty, marked another milestone with the distribution of ₹9.5 crore in financial assistance to over 4,000 beneficiaries and 100 organisations at a grand event held at Goldfinch City, Mangaluru, on December 25.
Inaugurating the programme, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly UT Khader commended Dr K Prakash Shetty for his unwavering dedication to social service and humanitarian values. He described the Neravu initiative as a living example of humanity and social responsibility, noting that its impact has transformed the lives of thousands across Karnataka.
UT Khader added, “Dr Prakash Shetty has consistently stood at the forefront of social service. His simplicity, compassion, and commitment have instilled confidence and dignity among the underprivileged.”
President of Alva’s Education Foundation Dr M Mohan Alva highlighted the sustained impact of the initiative, stating that over the past seven years, the Neravu programme has distributed nearly ₹25 crore to around 15,000 beneficiaries. The beneficiaries include persons with disabilities, patients requiring critical medical support, students seeking educational assistance, and achievers in the fields of education, culture, and sports.
Under the programme, students received educational assistance ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹1 lakh, while voluntary organisations were supported with grants between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh, enabling them to expand their outreach and community services.
Addressing the gathering, Dr K Prakash Shetty reflected on his own life experiences, stating that the struggles he faced during his childhood and his belief in coexistence inspired him to dedicate a portion of his earnings to societal welfare. He urged beneficiaries to carry forward the spirit of giving by extending support to others whenever possible.
The programme was further graced by the presence of Kannada film producer Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, who joined other dignitaries in distributing financial assistance to the beneficiaries.
The event was also attended by MRG Group Managing Director Gaurav P. Shetty, son of Dr K Prakash Shetty, whose presence underscored the Group’s enduring commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.
The ‘Neravu’ initiative continues to serve as a powerful platform for compassion-driven, community-centric development, promoting inclusive growth and social empowerment. The event concluded on a high note, reflecting the dedication, transparency, and tireless efforts of the organising team in advancing the programme’s mission to uplift the underprivileged.
