Global air passenger demand fell 3.4 per cent year-on-year in April 2026 as the ongoing Middle East conflict severely disrupted airline operations, according to the International Air Transport Association. Demand among Middle Eastern carriers plunged 46.6 per cent, dragging overall traffic lower despite growth in other regions. “The situation for air transport remains highly volatile,” said Willie Walsh, IATA Director General, adding that jet fuel prices more than doubled in April, increasing pressure on airfares and airline schedules.
