Meghalaya sanctions ₹3.4 crore to support tourism infrastructure, expands homestay development across state

Meghalaya Tourism has sanctioned ₹3.40 crore under its Community-led Tourism Infrastructure Scheme and expanded support for homestays across the state. Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya, said tourism growth will be driven through infrastructure, connectivity, entrepreneurship, and development of new tourism centres.

Under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Homestay Mission, the state aims to develop 3,000 new homestays and over 15,000 beds by 2028. The government sanctioned grants for 58 tourism infrastructure beneficiaries and additional support for existing projects. Timothy D Shira, Minister of Tourism, Meghalaya, said the state recorded tourist footfall of 18 lakh visitors and highlighted ongoing tourism projects aligned with the ‘Viksit Bharat’ roadmap, alongside plans for a dedicated Destination Management Organisation (DMO).
