With India emerging as one of its fastest-growing source markets, Malaysia intensified its outreach through a dedicated Visit Malaysia 2026 engagement in New Delhi. The multi-format event combined strategic announcements, cultural showcases, and B2B networking to deepen trade partnerships ahead of its ambitious arrival targets.
Visit Malaysia 2026 was showcased on Tuesday, 24 February 2026 at Pullman New Delhi Aerocity, organised by Tourism Malaysia. The engagement brought together travel agents, tour operators, DMCs, airline partners, hotel chains, and tourism stakeholders. A press conference formed part of the programme, outlining growth figures, connectivity expansion, visa facilitation, and destination diversification plans for the Indian market.
Opening the session, Nuwal Fadhilah Ku Azmi, Senior Director, Tourism Malaysia, highlighted India’s strategic importance. Malaysia welcomed 1.5 million Indian visitors in 2025, marking a 40.6 per cent increase over 2024 and surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
“For Visit Malaysia year, we are targeting more than 2 million Indian visitors coming into Malaysia,” she said, positioning India as a priority market for 2026.
Connectivity remains central to that strategy, with more than 240 weekly flights operating from over 14 Indian cities, including both tier I and tier II markets. New services include IndiGo’s Bengaluru–Langkawi and Chennai–Penang routes, with additional Indian carriers expected to enter the sector.
Azmi also pointed to the ongoing visa-free policy, extended until the end of the year, which has enabled short-notice bookings and increased spontaneous travel. She noted that Indian travellers are increasingly exploring destinations beyond Kuala Lumpur, including Penang, Langkawi, Sabah, and Sarawak, aligning with the campaign’s push for broader destination dispersion.
Addressing the gathering, Dato’ Muzafar Shah Mustafa, High Commissioner of Malaysia to India, placed tourism within the wider Malaysia–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2024. He emphasised strong historical ties and people-to-people connections, highlighting the significant ethnic Indian community in Malaysia.
Beyond the strategic announcements, the evening featured traditional Malaysian dance performances reflecting the country’s multicultural identity under the “Malaysia Truly Asia” positioning. Dedicated B2B networking sessions allowed Indian stakeholders to engage directly with Tourism Malaysia representatives and partners.
For the Indian travel trade, Visit Malaysia 2026 signalled sustained investment, improved accessibility, and an aggressive 2 million visitor target — reinforcing Malaysia’s intent to secure a larger share of India’s outbound market in the coming year.
