Japan is rapidly emerging as a preferred premium MICE destination for Indian corporates as geopolitical uncertainty and airspace disruptions continue to impact traditional European incentive itineraries. According to Vikas Khanduri, Advisor, NIMA, Japan has evolved from a niche incentive destination to a mainstream choice over the past three years, supported by stronger India-Japan business ties, improved air connectivity, and proactive engagement by Japanese tourism stakeholders with the Indian travel trade.

“Geopolitical developments and airspace disruptions have created challenges for traditional European itineraries, prompting many corporates to evaluate premium alternatives. Japan has been a major beneficiary of this pivot.” Khanduri noted. The broader travel trend is reflected in Japan’s record 315,100 Indian visitor arrivals in 2025, up 35.2 per cent year-on-year and nearly 80 per cent above 2019 levels, underscoring the destination’s growing appeal among Indian travellers.
