Focus on length of stay, not arrivals, says Merschen

Citing that the tourism industry gives too much importance to arrival numbers, Alan Merschen, Founder, MMGY & The Sigmund Project, suggested destinations to prioritise visitors’ length of stay. “If I want a 10% growth, I don’t need 10% more airline seats — I need one extra day from every visitor,” he said, adding longer stays boost ROI, spread benefits locally, and are softer on the environment.
