Bhutan is considering introducing a digital arrival card and electronic travel authorisation as part of efforts to modernise entry procedures. Proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the initiative aims to streamline immigration, enhance traveller experience, and align with global shifts towards paperless border processes.
The proposal was presented during the Mid-Term Review of Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan. Authorities have already introduced e-visa systems, automated immigration clearance, and digital processes at Paro International Airport, signalling a broader push towards digitisation. Final implementation timelines and framework details are yet to be confirmed.
